Background Information Other scenarios have more of an end goal, but The City of Bywater has no underlying goal for its completion. You are a group of adventurers who have arrived in the city of Bywater with a small amount of money and a great desire for adventure. This was a first attempt at creating a scenario so I pretty much winged it as I created the scenario driver. The story line is fairly loose, so you can pretty much go wherever you like, whenever you like.
Some people will like this better than strictly linear games that guide you along a path. Finish X, so you can try Y, to get to Z. What happens if X is boring, or you can't figure it out? You would be stuck in that case. Now you will be able to do what YOU want to do, not what the game designers want you to do. Pretty slick! The City of Bywater is an honest city.
The average man has little to fear except for the occasional cutpurse. The city is ruled by a kind king. Recently, a tower has been built by a cult of spider worshippers just to the east of the city. Though they have broken no laws, it is widely known that they practice evil ceremonies, and rumored that they plan on the eventual overthrow of the king.
Many believe the spider tower actually contains NO spiders, but other forms of arachnids instead. Open ranges frequented by goblins lie south of the city. Eastward, tribes of Orcs rove the land. Southeast of the city, the land is largely unexplored.
Rumors say that the lands are occupied by small groups of hill giants. Don't be paranoid. Bywater is an honest town. Don't walk around in fear of the town guard unless you have done something wrong. Realmz is unlike many adventure games that plunge you into trouble for no apparent reason.
A good defense is often your best offense. Before engaging in a known battle, it is helpful to camp and cast a few defensive spells.
This will significantly improve your chances for success in battle. For example: Just prior to a battle, you should camp, then cast any defensive spells such as Bless, Bark Skin, Protection From Cold, etc. Save your game often! This can't be stressed enough! After the successful completion of an encounter or major battle, it's wise to save the game. If your party dies, you will be able to pick up where you left off. A well-balanced party is essential for success.
To survive, almost any party will need at least one Cleric and either a Mage or Enchanter. Clerics are very defensive in nature and have a wide variety of defensive and healing spells. Mages and Enchanters have a few defensive spells, but as a whole, have many more offensive spells. Magic is sometimes the only way into certain situations, or out of trouble. Divinity or Yahoo! Ni No Kuni Spoiler tags! Spoilers can be posted using the following formatting: X Kills Y(/spoiler) example. It sure can be tough to get a foothold. Once you do though, things go great. You just need to get over the hump of having other casters cast a spell that damages everyone, because 9 damage to everyone can be enough to knock out your sorcerer and your priest. I found that Invisibility is a good technique to allow mages to retreat. I rarely use Limited Phase but I guess that's an option for emergencies.
Sentry is a 7th level skill for your priest that at the very least stops pop-up battles when exploring the countryside. Can you tell I've been pounding hours into this game lately?? For anyone stumbling across this, I downloaded this on 10.11.3 and it didn't work at first. Edit: EDIT: Looks like the Wineskin app that is built into the package contents has an update feature. After messing around, unchecking the XQuartz option, updating (TOOLS:wrapper tools section:Update Wrapper).
It all seems to be back to normal. That's pretty damn convenient that they build in wine in each wrap like this. Despite the Wine Wrapped version saying ti could take a few minutes to launch, after 10 minutes nothing happened. After force quitting, a dialog that was blocked somehow showed up talking about X11.
X11 isn't a default installation anymore, but the dialog directed me to an Apple site about it then about installing XQuartz. I don't know how X11 equates to XQuartz, but whatever. After doing that, Realmz would launch and sit there for 10 minutes doing nothing again. Anyway, I got lucky after trying to install Wine to wrap myself, but while trying to figure it out saw the 100 engines you can use and gave up. Anyway, here's what worked: Install XQuartz/X11 here: Right-click Realmz::Show Package Content::Open 'Wineskin' (I installed it beforehand, but I don't believe you actually need Wine installed). Click on Options tab.
Enable option at bottom, 'Force use system installed XQuartz instead of built in WineskinX11' TOOLS:wrapper tools section:Update Wrapper (I also clicked 'refresh wrapper' the first time, but I don't know if that affects it). Autocad nested blocks. I got lucky finding that, and when I did I clicked 'Test Run' and it popped right up. Also, I googled and it looks like the dev released serial codes to use if you Google it. Use the 'Reset Serial Number Code' to change the serial number (shown in upper left of Registration screen when Realmz launches) to set the Serial Number listed below, then use the Reg Code and Reg Name to register it. I don't believe the other maps let you pre-register, and have in-game dialogs when you start them up. Windows: Serial Number: 13706024 Registration Code: 7995820 Reset Serial Number Code: 410 Registration Name:: MEIERS Prelude to Pestilence: 2846681 Assault on Giant Mountain: 2731903 Castle in the Clouds: 1850227 Destroy the Necronomicon: 300754 White Dragon: 302208 Grilochs Revenge: 687525 Trouble in the Sword Lands: 1533542 Mithril Vault: 162011 I tried to pirate the shit out of this game in the 90s on my old Mac. I think I would get successful every now and then as he had a pretty good system set up at the time.
I at least got to put dozens of hours in Bywater, but never the expansions. I would love to send the guy money as this game was pretty much the secret world I got to explore when I was a kid. And now that I am a man and can do what I want, I can't wait for the wife and kids to fall asleep so I can go back for a few hours tonight. Thanks for the reply! I made the wrapper long ago, and admittedly, I haven’t patched it in recent history:( So I sincerely appreciate the updated instructions! There is a guy working on updating it,.
Lastly not sure how I feel about all the registration codes displayed here. On the one hand, pirating codes is not cool.
On the other hand, it’s practically impossible to pay money for a Realmz license at the moment. (That being said, it looks like they’re mostly out in the wild anyway.). Realmz was originally released as shareware, with a $20 registration fee and additional fees for each scenario. As of November 2008, Fantasoft has released the full version of Realmz as a free download.
The registration numbers for the scenarios have been made available to everyone on the Realmz Yahoo Group. 2 Those who run Mac OS Classic were instructed to enter 410 on the registration screen and type in the serial number 13706024 then use the serial and registration code from Fantasoft. Whereas windows users could enter 410 on the registration screen and type in the serial number 13706024 then use the serial and registration code from Fantasoft. From their wiki page. Not only is it pretty much abandoned, but the only reason I post is because it seems to be official to 'pirate' at this point. EDIT: Looks like the Wineskin app that is built into the package contents has an update feature. After messing around, unchecking the force XQuartz option, updating (TOOLS:wrapper tools section:Update Wrapper).
It all seems to be back to normal with the draw rate. Rebuilding is conveniently done within the package contents too if needed. That's pretty damn convenient that they build in wine in each wrap like this. With the existing version, it seems that 'fast cast' does not work despite being checked in the game prefs. So every time someone casts or shoots something, there's a painfully long wait if they are more than a few squares away. It basically just ruined the refresh/draw rate all together for the rare animations. Not sure if it's just me or the Quartz override I mentioned above though.
Well, nothing special to it ☺️ Wineskin Winery makes making wine wrappers a very easy process. I just had to find the right wine version to use. The wrapper is running the Windows version.
Microsoft Windows
A Russian company was in charge of the Windows port quite some time ago, and it is mostly all there, aside from a few small bugs. (Yes, how ironic that it’s easier to get the Windows version running on a new Mac than the old Mac version.) I know originally there were two or three guys who helped create Realmz, and Tim was the one who stuck with it. I think it did pretty well as a shareware game back in the ’90s. Cool story: one of the artists actually was interested in the game but didn’t have money for it. So she offered to make art for the game in exchange for a license! Tim was working on New Centurions, a sci-fi version of the Realmz engine, and then around the time of OS X getting released basically disappeared. No idea what happened to him.
I think he moved to Florida, and, for whatever reason, lost interest completely. Skip Meier has been the steward of Realmz ever since. I presume he gained the legal rights to the game, but I don’t know details. After a few false attempts, a programmer has been in regular contact with skip on a modern version.
Don’t know how feasible it would be, but I’d love to play the game on my iPad myself.
Realmz Full PC Game Overview Realmz Download Free Full Game is a fantasy adventure and role-playing video game first developed and published by Fantasoft in 1994 for the Apple Macintosh as shareware. Fantasoft released a Microsoft Windows-compatible version in 1999, and a science fiction role-playing game based on the Realmz engine, titled New Centurions, in 2001. Realmz was originally written by Tim Phillips on a Macintosh IIsi; he also wrote four game scenarios, including the introductory scenario «City of Bywater». Other original scenario contributors were Jim Foley (who wrote two scenarios, namely «Castle in the Clouds» and «White Dragon») and Sean Sayrs (who wrote three, including «Prelude to Pestilence» and «Griloch's Revenge»). Realmz is similar to the Exile series by Spiderweb Software which features similar gameplay and graphics, and both were originally published by Fantasoft. Realmz Free Download. Custom Realmz game scenarios can be created with a tool called Divinity — also produced by Fantasoft, LLC.
A special version of Realmz — Divine Right — is useful in conjunction with Divinity. It is the debugger software for user-created scenarios. Setting While Realmz is primarily an engine for playing a number of scenarios (roughly corresponding to the campaigns in a tabletop RPG) using the same characters and set of rules, the different scenarios tend to take place in a broadly similar high fantasy setting known as «The Realmz». In fact, Fantasoft was once contacted by TSR about similarities to the Forgotten Realms D&D module, forcing the alteration of a number of elements in Realmz and its scenarios. Gameplay Realmz is a Role-playing video game where the player assumes the roles of a party of heroes in fictional adventures. The turn-based, tile-based game has rules for individual combat and the use of magic spells in fighting while focusing on the medieval-period high fantasy genre. Realmz Free Download PC Game.
The user interface consists of a character status bar which includes the character portrait, combat status, the character name, current stamina/maximum stamina, attacks/round or spell points/max spell points and the characters armor rating. Players can select from a range of different actions including camping, inventory management, spellcasting, displaying current spells affecting the party, using spells from a scrollcase, trading items between characters, exchanging money between characters, resting, and inscribing spells to scrolls. The action panel also displays the current time and day in-game and the current source of light. Special actions include area search, entering a temple, shopping and attempting to perform a special action. Combat gameplay involves the basic movement of characters around the combat screen which costs movement points. The amount of movement points are affected by how much weight the character is carrying. Each character has a maximum movement allowance that is determined by their statistics.

A character will always have at least 2 movement points per round, even if that character is carrying the maximum load. Rougher terrain takes longer to cross and can affect combat gameplay.
Open areas cost 1 movement point to cross while obstacles and muddy or rocky areas cost more movement points. Some objects, such as trees or giant fungi, are solid barriers to small creatures, while larger creatures are able to step over or move through these objects. Characters can also swap positions with other characters (since version 5), or they can attack a friend.
Characters on auto mode or those that are reanimated will never attack an ally and will always try to swap positions. Realmz for PC.
Magic-using characters use spell points to cast spells, regenerating spell points slowly over time or more rapidly while resting. Spells are gained only at level-up by «purchasing» them using spell selection points, which the character receives a set number of based on their stats (although priestly classes instead gained entire levels of spells at a time with every three level-ups in earlier versions of Realmz). When encamped, the party's magic users can store away pre-cast spells for the future by using parchment, a scroll case, and an additional spell point penalty to create scrolls; these scrolls could then be used in the future (even by compatible proto-magical classes like thieves and paladins) without spending spell points. One unusual feature of the Realmz' magic system is that most spells could have their power (damage, area, targets, duration, etc.) scaled by two to seven times in return for increased cost.
